Dear Brethren,

MEDITATION

3 But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints;

4 neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks.

5 For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.

6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.

7 Therefore do not be partakers with them.

OBSERVATION AND INTERPRETATION

1. A list of sins

a) Fornication
b) Uncleanness
c) Covetousness
d) Filthiness
e) Foolish talking
f) Coarse jesting

2. Possible reasons why these sins were highlighted:

a) These sins reflect the world at large
b) These problems had somehow influenced believers in the church
c) Some perhaps began to be led astray and were following these trends

3. The Biblical Perspective

a) These things should not even be named among believers
b) These are not fitting for saints
c) We should be filled with thanksgiving

4. A reminder

a) We have an Inheritance of the kingdom of God
b) If we practise the above sins, we do not have an inheritance
c) Therefore, no believer should be:

i) A fornicator
ii) An unclean person
iii) A covetous man
iv) An idolator

APPLICATION TO LIFE AND MINISTRY

1. Deception

a) This is the danger
b) These sinful things are taught as if they are acceptable things
c) Such teachings are “empty words”

2. The wrath of God

a) This will fall on those who practise these things
b) These are called “sons of disobedience”

3. We should never be partakers with such people

a) This should be obvious
b) Such things are punishable sins

4. We have seen such sins in certain people who deceive others
Great is their punishment from God!
